Give Up, Give Back... by volunteering!

Are you still looking for something to give up during Lent? How about giving up a couple of hours each week and giving back to our charity shops by volunteering?

Our shops in Faringdon, Grove and Witney are always grateful for extra pairs of hands and with a variety of different volunteer roles, there’s certainly something for everyone! Would you like to turn your hand to any of the following?

  • Sorting donations

  • Working on the till and welcoming customers

  • PAT testing

  • Steaming clothes

  • Window and in-shop displays

  • Pricing donations

  • Listing items on eBay

  • Checking puzzles and games

It’s a great way to meet people, even make new friends.
— Kerry, Faringdon

Our volunteers have been telling us why they enjoy spending time in our charity shops and the resounding theme is one of friendliness, camaraderie and even a sense of belonging to an extra family!

During lockdown, I really missed it. It’s just warm and friendly. I like the team. It’s what I like best.
— Sarah*, Witney

The other common theme was the work we support at African Children’s Fund, and the sense of satisfaction many of our volunteers feel knowing the time they spend with us means we can help even more children living in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

Volunteering gives me satisfaction in the fact that whatever I’m doing is helping in a small way to give these children a start they wouldn’t have otherwise.
— Mary, Witney

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering for a little while, but you’re unsure where to begin, we’d love you to pop in and see us. You can call in to see Polly in Faringdon, Brian in Grove or Polly & Maureen in Witney or give your nearest shop a ring to talk through the options in more detail. We hope to see you soon.

Now I find I can’t not do it. I look forward to it every day when I’m due in and I’m bored when I’m not in. It’s become part of my life because I enjoy it so much.
— Marian, Grove
