2023: Annual Review
It’s taken us a little while to pull the data together, but we are incredibly proud to present our annual review of 2023, featuring project and fundraising highlights, all of which were only possible thanks to your ongoing support and generosity.
In January, the year got underway with the installation of a new kitchen outbuilding at the Quentin Junior Academy in Tanzania.
March saw the annual celebration of International Women’s Day with videos from teachers in Tanzania who support the Education All Month, Every Month programme.
By April, we were excited to announce the addition of Mang’u, Nyacaba and Mutiria Primary Schools to the Kenyan Porridge Clubs programme.
May brought difficulties with a broken water pump at the Joy Children’s Centre in Kenya, which turned into a phenomenal fundraising appeal that hit its target within days.
History was made in July with our first ever Charity Shop Takeover thanks to the Juice Networking group who spent half a day working with our retail teams in Faringdon, Grove and Witney.
In September, our CEO Dee visited projects we support in Kenya and Tanzania for the first time post-Covid, and was met with significant progress and development.
Our World Porridge Day celebrations in October saw Porridge Breakfasts hosted across Oxfordshire and beyond.
For the second year in a row, we wrapped up the year with the Big Give Christmas Challenge in December, where we raised over £11,000 to support the Kenyan Porridge Clubs programme in 2024.
As 2024 picks up pace, we’re looking forward to bringing you news on the imminent completion of the library at Rowa Primary School in Zimbabwe, as well as details of a new vegetable garden for the Quentin Junior Academy in Tanzania, and a chicken hatchery project from SAFE Uganda. Not to mention news from the well-established and much loved Porridge Clubs and Education All Month, Every Month programmes in Kenya and Tanzania.
To our supporters, funding partners and volunteers, your kindness and generosity has made 2023 a success both in the UK and overseas. For our wonderful partners in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe, we hope this summary makes you as proud as it makes us! We’re looking forward to continuing this journey into 2024. Thank you all.
