Kenyan Primary Schools Reopening

After their closure in mid-March to minimise the spread of Coronavirus, all primary schools in Kenya fully reopened last week and those we support in Thika all reported excellent re-enrolment levels.

You may remember there was a partial reopening in October for children in exam year groups.

Children were certainly happy to be back with their friends, as you can see from these photos at Ng'ate Primary School where - thanks to your contributions - Porridge Clubs were immediately reintroduced alongside the school reopening.

School Porridge Clubs provide children with a daily mug of porridge that can make the difference between a child attending school and working, scavenging or begging on the streets for food. As Brenda reported on World Porridge Day last October, she credits the Porridge Clubs programme as a game changer that had a significant impact on her life, leading her to work as an Advocate in the High Court of Kenya today!
