New Water Pump for Joy Children's Centre

The Joy Children's Centre in Kenya provides primary education to 300 children in their community, and provides accommodation to 90 of those.

Unfortunately, their long-standing water pump has broken and needs to be replaced. To ensure sustainability of its replacement and to minimise the effect of increasing energy prices, the Joy team would like to install a solar-powered pump and water heater.

Water from the new pump will be used for drinking, cooking, cleaning, washing and ensuring their new toilet block continues to function properly. The team at Joy is currently having to buy water which is proving costly. Water for bathing has traditionally been heated over an open fire so the installation of the new pump and water heater will reduce the cost of purchasing firewood, will provide cleaner energy and will also improve safety.
