Uganda Marathon 2019

The Uganda Marathon never fails in its promise to offer An Adventure Like No Other. Spend one amazing weekend challenging yourself and making a difference to rural Ugandan communities bordering the Uganda Marathon route.

Itinerary:

Your adventure will start on 26th May when you land at Entebbe airport with 149 other adventurers! You’ll be met by a team from the Uganda Marathon who will organise your onward journey to Masaka, with a brief stop at the Equator, allowing you time to acclimatise to your new environment.

4 Ugandan children having fun on a blue & green bouncy castle.

On Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May, join in with See Your Legacy days when you can spend time visiting and volunteering in projects supported by runners of the Uganda Marathon, giving you the chance to see the direct impact that your money is having on the communities who benefit from these programmes.

Thursday 30th May sees the annual KidsRunWild children’s sports day - a day dedicated to fun runs, bouncy castles, games, face painting and most importantly… laughter! 31st May gives you a chance to relax before the big event with a pasta & pool party. Then the sun will rise on 1st June.

Race Day:

5 members of SAFE Uganda - 4 of whom are wearing African Children’s Fund t-shirts - with a banner of black, red & yellow balloons behind them, ready for the start of the Uganda Marathon.

Your week of adventure will culminate with Race Day - offering you the chance to take on a 10km, half marathon or full marathon. 3,000 runners will take part from across Uganda and throughout whichever distance you choose, you’ll be cheered on by those you’ve spent the week connecting with! While the courses may not offer a PB opportunity (far from it!), the beautiful hills, rolling terrain and stunning landscapes will stay with you forever.

At the finish line, join in a huge party that the whole of Masaka is invited to before heading back to the Athlete’s Village for a massage, BBQ and continuation of the earlier party!

Sunday 2nd:

While the end of the week will typically see many of your fellow marathoners return home, we would love you to stay on for a couple of days to spend time in Kampala with the SAFE Uganda team who deliver the programmes we support in the country.

When you register with the code AFRICAN CHILDREN’S FUND, the Uganda Marathon team will offer you a £50 discount against your sign-up fees. Let us know as soon as you have registered and we’ll provide you with full support in the creation of your fundraising page and we will make sure we send an African Children’s Fund technical t-shirt to you by post.
