Zimbabwe Drought - help us raise £100
News reaches us from Zimbabwe that following the devastating effects of Cyclone Idai in March this year, the Mutare region where our partner, Mwana Trust, is based is now suffering from drought.
School absenteeism has increased dramatically as children are hungry and simply don’t have the energy to walk long distances to school in hot weather, on an empty stomach.
At Gombakomba Primary School, they have introduced a lunchtime feeding programme and as you can see in these photographers, there is a long queue of children waiting to receive their portions of plain boiled maize.
Mwana Trust is committed to helping the school do more to combat the immediate effects of hunger. They intend to provide the schools with beans, salt and cooking oil so the plain maize becomes more palatable. They are also going to buy plates and cups for the schools as they are currently serving food in any receptacle available, including pouches and broken containers.
Mutare’s residents have suffered throughout 2019. We would like to raise just £100 to help Mwana Trust’s efforts. Please consider making a contribution, quoting Zimbabwe Drought in the comments, so Mwana Trust can provide additional support to Gombakomba Primary School and others in the surrounding area. Thank you in advance for your kindness.
